Hot Day, Cold Otter Pops At The Parade!
Oh man was it toasty this last weekend! But that's usually how it goes for Sportsman's Holiday. With our ears still ringing from the exhaust competition the night before we all gathered off of 22nd avenue here in Sweet Home. We have done this a time or two so we know the routine. But this year it seemed a little less hectic, a little more organized, I don't know but it wasn't as crazy as a dash as previous years.
Now the cool thing this year is we were actually giving away the camping set that we had on our float. This year's theme was adventure and so we went with a tent, chairs, cooler, and firepit. All you had to do was text gocamping to our text number and fill out the form and you were entered to win. Now we spent the previous week setting the process up, and testing the system like a million times. We had custom banners printed with the info on them and everything! Now let me tell you something almost everyone doesn't know. Ten minutes before the start of the parade the team tested the system once again. When I say I almost had a stroke, I mean it 100%. Errors, all of them, they would send a text and it would come back with the wrong info. So if you heard someone having a meltdown off of 22nd, yeah that was me. To this day we still don't know what caused it, some system glitch but after about 7 minutes of tunnel vision trying to connect with support it just randomly started functioning as it should.
Now if you don't know, we have a "thing" we do at the parade. We hand out thousands and I mean exactly that, thousands of Otter Pops. Let me put that into perspective for you. Have you ever seen this meme?
Yeah, that's Chelsea's freezer. Not "like" her freezer, that is legitimately her freezer from like 4 years ago. Fun fact, that many Otter Pops take about two weeks to fully freeze. Somehow that image went viral and it pops up now and again and we all share a good laugh about it.
The truly fun thing about the parade is being able to hand those out. Kids and adults alike get all happy when they see the glorious frozen colored sugar sticks of happiness. Honestly, who doesn't love a cold otter pop on a hot day? It brings joy to us to be able to celebrate with the community but also give a little memento of summer.
All in all we had a blast, starting from the night before until the fireworks of the night of. We really enjoy this community and having Sportsman's Holiday as a Sweet Home thing really is one of the many joys of living in a small town.
